Raising awareness of the energy transition in schools

When students become actors of Togo's energy transition

The KYA Foundation is pursuing its commitment to a sustainable energy future through an awareness campaign on the energy transition in the secondary schools of the Agoè-Nyivé 1 municipality, Togo.

During the 2025-2026 academic year, seven awareness sessions reached 1,551 students, including 714 girls, as well as 25 teachers. The activities took place at the Clémence Divine, Beau Soleil, Alipui le Grand, Le Sommet, Rossignole and LIDAO school complexes, and at KYA-Energy Group with the beneficiaries of the Kékéli centre.

Preparing young people for tomorrow's challenges

The sessions helped students better understand:

• The different energy sources and their uses
• The differences between fossil fuels and renewable energy
• The environmental impact of energy choices
• The benefits of clean energy
• The training and career opportunities in energy transition professions

Promoting eco-citizen action

"The future cannot be built without innovative solutions. Togo's energy deficit stems in part from planning insufficiently adapted to population growth and rising energy needs. It is by informing and raising the awareness of the younger generation that the adoption of renewable energy can be sustainably secured."

These are the words of A. Mawuli GOKA, Programme Coordinator at the KYA Foundation.

For the Chairman of the Foundation's Board of Directors, Prof. Yao AZOUMAH, raising young people's awareness of energy transition issues is essential to fostering more sustainable access to renewable energy sources over the long term. He also stresses the importance of creating energy transition clubs in schools to further promote eco-citizen action.

A generation ready to commit

Students showed keen interest in careers in solar power, energy efficiency and clean technologies. Their many questions and active participation reflect their willingness to contribute to a more sustainable future.

Faced with climate and energy challenges, the KYA Foundation remains convinced that raising young people's awareness is an essential lever for accelerating Togo's energy transition. The campaign will continue so that more young people can become tomorrow's agents of change.
